Both the durability of the fire-retardant treatment and that of wood products can be assessed according to the standard. Within this standard, there is a classification system (DRF) that indicates how durable a fire-retardant treatment is under different service conditions. It is important to choose the correct DRF class to ensure that the fire-retardant treated wood remains safe in its end use.
The lifespan of the fire-retardant treatment with Burnblock is directly related to the substrate (the wood).
The durability of the fire-retardant treatment also depends on the durability of the substrate. The higher the durability of the substrate, the higher the durability of the treatment.
In addition to the performance and service life of the treated wood, correct installation and proper maintenance are essential to fully utilize the service life of the wood – especially when a finish has been applied.
The wood undergoes a high-pressure treatment that adds the fire-retardant agent to the hollow cell structure of the wood. Afterwards, the wood is dried, allowing the fire-retardant agent to penetrate the cell walls and partially fill the cells.
